How to Be a Good Steward of Your Role as a Parent

HOW CAN I BE A GOOD PARENT who takes THE RIGHT STEPS?

Parents are given an assignment—for a time—to raise their kids to the best of their ability. Being a good steward of that God-given role includes putting a thoughtful plan in place to fit your family, learning and adjusting the plan as needed, and getting help from others along the way. Then, praying for God’s strength every day to be the best parent you can be.

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” (Proverbs 16:3)

How can you be a faithful steward of your role as a parent and put a good plan in place?

Do your very best one step at a time

God does not expect you to be perfect, and your kids don’t need you to be. But to be a good steward of your critical role as a parent, you need to be proactive and do your very best one day at a time, and that will be enough to hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Manage an ongoing parenting plan

Being a parent is one of the most important things you will ever do, so it makes sense that you should put a thoughtful, written plan in place knowing, “The wisdom of the prudent is to give thought to their ways.” Then, review and adjust the plan regularly as you go along.

Get help and strength from others

If your kids are struggling, don’t hesitate to get help so you never have to say, “We waited too late.” Make sure you use parenting resources such as PACES for Parents. Most of all, draw on God’s help and confidently declare, “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”
