We all want to find our way—our place, our purpose—and try to figure out the meaning of life.
A good story has characters: bad guys, good guys, and, of course, the hero. And a theme we connect with, such as, “Will evil triumph, or can good prevail?” To make the story work, we need drama: when trouble comes, what will the hero do, and where will help come from?
As people move through life, they often begin to think about deeper issues they may have ignored earlier. Sometimes, they feel regret for things they wish they had done—or not done—and sad realizations creep into their consciousness.
What part of your life do you worry about? That brings sadness? Or makes you feel frustrated, lonely, or hopeless? Which of your numbing-to-escape habits makes life worse rather than better? What negative thoughts haunt you at night?
The world–and our ego–urges us to take control of everything in our lives. Sometimes, though, the best thing is to let it go.
Life is a journey. All of us would like to see exactly where we are going, but that is not possible. Too much can happen; too much is outside our control. Building a plan for the future can help us take steps in the right direction and deal with change along the way.
